Things to think about when you do your weekly food shop

A big part of being independent is doing your weekly shop.
You may have someone helping you with this task or you may do it by yourself.
Here are our top tips when it comes to doing your shopping.
1. Set up a budget and stick to it.
2. Write a shopping list, take it with you and tick it off as you go.
3. Plan your travel.

If you need to use public transport, plan your trip around the transport schedule.

4. If you buy anything frozen, think about how you will keep it cool.

You can bring along a chill bag or even an ice pack.
5. Stay strict to your budget, a good way of doing this is sticking to your list.
If you have an intellectual disability you can still do your weekly shop.
It may just take some practice and planning.
If you have a support person helping you to do your weekly shop you could ask them to share their tips with you.
